March 12th , 1970 - March 21st , 1997
John Nemechek died from head injuries suffered
in the Florida Dodge Dealers400K at Homestead, at the age of 27. Nemechek had
been in a coma from the time of the accident on Sunday ,March 16th 1997. He
suffered severe brain trauma and bruising to other internal organs from the
impact of the crash. Nemechek hit the wall with the driver's side of his truck.
The impact crumpled cockpit and safety personnel had to cut off the top of the
truck to extricate Nemechek. John Nemechek is younger brother of NASCAR Winston
Cup driver Joe Nemechek and was running his second full season in the Truck
series. It was his 43rd career start.
